Translations for the Medical, Life Sciences,
IT & Technology Sectors
Successful localization requires a precise understanding of the unique features of target markets, as well as sound technical capabilities. With ADAPT, you’re in the best of hands on both counts.
ADAPT has been specializing in diverse fields of expertise within the medical technology and life science sectors for 20 years and is among the most highly regarded companies in this area.
Technical translations demand special expertise and particular accuracy. ADAPT Localization Services is your reliable translation partner in many areas of technology.
A few years ago, most manufacturers who wanted to enjoy international success only had to make their products available in standard languages, such as English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese and Chinese. Since then, economic, political and regulatory developments have led to a situation where often more language versions are now required. Even specialized technologies are frequently translated into more than 30 languages today.
Thanks to our regional offices in Germany, Sweden, Spain, Denmark and Italy, as well as our production teams and partners worldwide, we offer translations into all languages. We work exclusively with native speakers who are experts in their chosen fields and normally live and work in the target country. The languages we offer include:
Afrikaans, Albanian, Arabic, Armenian, Azerbaijani, Basque, Belarusian, Bengali, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Burmese, Catalan, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Farsi, Filipino, Finnish, Flemish, French, Georgian, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Irish, Icelandic, Italian, Japanese, Kazakh, Khmer, Korean, Kyrgyz, Latvian, Lithuanian, Luxembourgish, Macedonian, Malay, Maltese, Mongolian, Nepali, Norwegian, Pashto, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Sinhalese, Slovakian, Slovenian, Somali, Spanish, Swahili, Swedish, Tagalog, Tajik, Tamil, Thai, Turkish, Turkmen, Ukrainian, Urdu, Uzbek, Vietnamese, Zulu
Many of the documents that our customers entrust to us are strictly confidential. Accordingly, data protection and data security are just as important to ADAPT as to our customers and we take our responsibilities in this regard very seriously.
Non-Disclosure Agreements are standard practice at ADAPT and these can incorporate individual agreements with specific customers. We also apply the following general principles in all cases:
Do you have any questions on how we handle confidential data or any special requirements you would like to discuss with us? Please contact us.
We use cutting-edge technology on projects, wherever it is useful and feasible to do so. This includes software for computer-aided translation software (CAT), in particular translation memory systems, which store the translated texts in a database and offer a range of functions to optimize the translation process and improve the consistency of the translations. Translation memory technology not only has a positive impact on the costs and quality of new translation projects. In addition, existing translations that have not yet been stored in translation databases can be transferred into translation memories before we start a new project so that they can simply be edited and re-used.

When translating software user interfaces, we use special tools that not only offer translation memory functions but also enable us to visualize the interface during translation. As a result, our translators can view the menu items, button labels etc., which often appear without any context in the source files, exactly as they appear in the software and can take account of factors such as length restrictions during the translation process. This significantly reduces subsequent testing and enables a faster launch in your target markets.

Following translation, we check the files using various semi-automated quality assurance tools. These eliminate “human error” and ensure, for example, that figures, units of measure, product names and key terms are used correctly throughout the text, that code integrity is preserved and much more.

The quality and usability of your localized product depend to a large degree on the use of clear, unambiguous and consistent terminology that complies with the standards and conventions of the target market. In addition, terminology should always reflect your corporate identity. That’s why we develop project terminology in collaboration with representatives from your company in the target countries wherever possible. We also manage and maintain your terminology database using software integrated into the translation technology we use.

The quality of a translation largely depends on the extent to which the source text itself is translation-ready. We’ll be happy to optimize your source texts prior to localization to eliminate redundancies and to avoid any technical or cultural misunderstandings that could compromise the translation of your software and documentation. Investing in this service will improve the quality of the translation and save you time and money during the localization phase.
Since 2005, readability analysis has been a mandatory requirements for the patient information provided with medicinal products. This analysis involves interviews with lay people to determine whether the information is clear, unambiguous and easily accessible. It is often advisable to test the practical suitability of user information in other areas also in order to avoid liability risks. We can perform a readability analysis of your text and, based on the results, suggest potential improvements to the text and provide you with a detailed report.
Quality and reliability are our top priorities, even more so as the majority of our work is on products which are safety-critical. That's why ADAPT Localization Services GmbH was one of the first companies to be successfully certified by LinquaCert, the Swiss certification authority, under the then newly introduced translation services standard ISO 17100, and why we also sought certification under ISO 13485 which we received from TÜV Hessen.
EN ISO 17100:2015 is the current professional standard for translation companies. It establishes fundamental requirements for translation projects and focuses mainly on production processes, including qualification requirements for translators, reviewers and project managers, as well as the structural workflow of translation projects. Certification audits also concentrate on information security and, in particular, the handling of customer data.
Continuous adherence to the the provisions of the norm are verified in annual audits.
EN ISO 13485:2021 is the quality management norm for manufacturers of medical products and services which relate to them. It requires to base all processes on a risk analysis and sets high standards for meeting both customer and regulatory requirements and for documenting all relevant processes and activities.
Continuous and consistent compliance of our quality management system with the requirements of ISO 13485 is demonstrated in yearly surveillance audits.

We leverage our in-depth knowledge of the technologies and tools that are now so essential to the success of any translation project. We also rely on rigorous quality management in all areas of the company. We keep a close eye on technical developments in our industry and assess whether these are relevant and applicable to what we do. This naturally includes machine translation software, which we test and evaluate internally. During regular production for our customers, however, all texts are produced by human translators. Today’s translation software undoubtedly offers a wide range of applications already. However, we don't believe that these applications should currently include safety-related materials or materials that touch on issues concerning product liability, such as patient information, user manuals for medical devices or instructions for using machinery.
